The primary focus of this chapter was to get you up to speed on the basic concepts of networking. At this point, you should be familiar with the basic network categories and topologies, and the media access methods used for networks. You should also have a basic understanding of TCP/IP and be able to troubleshoot simple network connectivity issues.
This chapter was designed to help you handle just about any networking questions the A+ Core exam may ask. Once again, however, there is no substitute for hands-on training. As a final important note and warning regarding your A+ Core Hardware Service Technician study, CompTIA seems to be putting more operating systems and set-up related questions into the Core Hardware exam. For example, the exam may ask you something like, “Where is regedit.exe found or stored?” For this reason, it is highly recommended that you complete the Operating Systems Study (Part II B) of this book to better increase your chances of passing the Core Hardware exam.
