SEC AND SEP

In Chapter 15, you became familiar with slot and socket technology. Slot technology integrates the processor onto a circuit board or IC board. The circuit board is then plugged into a motherboard slot. The actual edge of the circuit board that is plugged into the motherboard comes in two forms: Single Edge Connector (SEC) or Single Edge Processor (SEP). Most modern processors, including the Celeron, AMD Athlon, Pentium II, and Pentium III, use either SEC or SEP packaging and employ slot technology. Intel’s SEC design contains both a CPU and a Level 2 cache.
