Avalon-Hill

As far as I was concerned, Tanktics was a finished product and I was ready to move on to new projects. However, in 1981, Avalon-Hill, a board wargaming company, was just entering the computer wargaming field. They offered me a contract to publish Tanktics for a variety of platforms. I took the PET version, spiffed it up a bit, and it was ready to go. I ported this version over to the Atari. A friend, Bob Smith, ported it to the TRS-80, while another friend, Todd Frye, ported it to the Apple II. These guys did this work for a share of the royalties, which never amounted to much, but not for any sharp dealing on my part. This Avalon-Hill version shipped in a beautiful box with a gorgeous map in late 1981. I think I earned a total of perhaps $10,000 on it; I don't recall how many units they sold, but it was certainly in the thousands.
