A Word About the Unique Question Styles on the Exam

If you took the 70-100 exam, you are already familiar with some of the new question styles, beyond simple multiple-choice, used on this exam. In case they are new to you, however, I'll just say a few words.

"Drag and Drop" (Boxes and Lines)

The drop-and-drop question style is usually used when you are required to create a small database schema, adding lines between tables that show relationships, or when you need to show the flow of an application between logical or physical units.

Build a Tree

The "build a tree" question style presents several major TreeView control branches and asks you to drag items from the other side of the screen into the correct hive. This style is often used when asking you to design an object (identifying properties, methods, events) or a table (identifying primary keys, foreign keys, attributes).

Ordered List

In the ordered list style, you are given a list of items on one side of the screen and asked to drag them to the other side, placing them in the particular order the question requests.

Choose the Correct Exhibit

The exhibit style seems to be Microsoft's way of speeding up the exam. In the past, test-takers created these diagrams. Now, by presenting four options and having you choose the correct one, Microsoft can make the test move more quickly and add some extra complexity to the drawing. Pay attention to detail. As they say in the airport, many bags look alike.

Rather than say this for each question style, I'll say it only one time. Just because options are on the screen does not mean you need to use them. There are likely to be "extra pieces" you don't need to use. Also, although difficult to verify, it seems likely that partial credit is given for partially correct answers (a luxury you do not always get in the real world). So even if you don't know all the correct placements, do what you can.
