Online Data Analysis Resources


This section lists some of the tools and add-ins available on http:// www.microsoft.com that you can use to perform data analysis tasks in Microsoft Office. You can find these tools at the Web pages referred to for each tool. These pages also include instructions for installing and using the add-ins.

OLAP CubeCellValue for Microsoft Excel 2002

Available at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/CubeCellValue.aspx. This add-in allows you to retrieve a single value from an online analytical processing (OLAP) data provider and enter it into a single cell in a spreadsheet. The add-in also provides the CubeCellValue Formula dialog box (available from a command on the Data menu after you install the add-in) to help you construct the formula required to retrieve the data. To install and use OLAP CubeCellValue, follow the instructions on the download page.

Access Links for Microsoft Excel 2002

Available at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/acclnk.aspx. This add- in allows you to convert an Excel list to an Access database, create an Access report from Excel data, and use an Access form to enter Excel data. (This add- in is already included with Excel 2000.) To install and use Access Links, follow the instructions on the download page.

Report Manager for Microsoft Excel 2002

Available at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/rptmgr.aspx. This add- in allows you to combine Excel 2002 worksheets, views, and scenarios into reports that can be printed. After you add a report, it is saved with the workbook so that you can print the report later. (This add-in is already included with Excel 2000.) To install Report Manager, follow the instructions on the download page. After you’ve installed Report Manager, follow these steps to create a report for printing:

  1. On the View menu, click Report Manager.

  2. Click Add.

  3. In the Report Name box, type a name for the report.

  4. In the Sheet box, click the worksheet you want to use for the first section of the report.

  5. In the Section To Add area, do one of the following, repeating this step until you’ve created the sections you want in the report:

    1. If you want to select a view to use for the first section of the report, select the View check box and then select the view.

    2. If you want to use a scenario for the first section of the report, select the Scenario check box and then select the scenario.

    3. If you want to add a section to the list in the Sections In This Report box, click Add.

To edit a report for printing, do the following:

  1. On the View menu, click Report Manager.

  2. In the Reports box, click the report you want to edit and then click Edit.

  3. Do one or more of the following:

    1. To add a new section, click the sheet, view, or scenario you want under Section To Add and then click Add.

    2. To delete a section, click the section in the Sections In This Report box and then click Delete.

    3. To change the order of the sections, click the section you want to move and then click Move Up or Move Down.

    4. To number the pages of the report consecutively, select the Use Continuous Page Numbers check box.

To print a report, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Report Manager.

  2. In the Reports box, click the report you want to print.

  3. Click Print.

  4. In the Copies box, type the number of copies you want to print.

Template Wizard with Data Tracking for Microsoft Excel 2002

Available at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/tmplwiz.aspx. This add-in sets up a database in which to store data entered from an Excel form. When you install the add-in program, the Template Wizard command is added to the Data menu in Excel. (This add-in is already included with Excel 2000.) To install and use Template Wizard with Data Tracking, follow the instructions on the download page.

XML Spreadsheet Converter for Microsoft Access 2002

Available at http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/msxmlss.aspx. This add-in provides an easy way for you to format Microsoft Access 2002 data so that it can be recognized and used by Microsoft Excel 2002 or any application that recognizes the XML spreadsheet format. To install and use the XML Spreadsheet Converter, follow the instructions on the download page.
