7.10 Checklists

Have you ever gone shopping knowing exactly what you want, only to return home without some of the items? The same goes for software projects. Checklists can prove vital to the smooth running of your project. There should be a checklist of items that you can employ and add to as more project experience is gained . In fact, checklists at all stages can help. Everyone often thinks that they know what is required, but placing that information on a checklist will help immensely. Pilots spend years in the cockpit doing their preflight checks, so you would think they know it all by heart. They still use checklists.

Suggested checklists could be:

  • Common requirements that appear on all projects

  • Common questions that need to be asked

  • Hardware questions

  • Items to be covered in meetings

  • What dictates a VI as being finished

Use checklists as much as possible, they can prove invaluable.
