Chapter 16. Letting Your Podcast GoTaking a Wider View of Rights

In this chapter

  • The Open-Source Model

  • Creative Commons

After all the talk about how to protect your intellectual property rights, and the importance of respecting the rights of others, it might seem odd to see a chapter on letting your podcast go. For many podcasters, though, letting go will be the best approach to intellectual property rights. If you're not trying to make money with your podcast, or if your business model depends on having as many people as possible hear your podcast, then trying to limit access in any way can be self-defeating. With the current state of podcasting, spreading the word can be more important than the details of claiming ownership and rights. Even within the realm of letting go, though, there are degrees of rights claimed and granted, and it's worth thinking about the costs and benefits of ignoring the whole situation, the open source model, and taking advantage of Creative Commons.
