Wrapping Your Podcast in a Good Website

Here's a startling revelation: Most podcasts are about something. That something can be your business, your cat, your vacation, or your love life, but most podcasts aren't random ramblings on disjointed topics. We bring this up because there's a good chance that someone else has created a podcast, or a blog, or a website on a similar topic, and it's easy to link to those resources on the website that carries your podcast. While it's true that those links can lead people away from your site, the Internet tends to be an interlinked place, so through trackback links and invitation, many of the related sites will include your podcast on their list of related sites, so their visitors can find you. The readers win, you win, and your increasingly rich set of links and resources become part of the total on-line experience that makes your podcast unique.

tip

Trackback is a standard created by the team that wrote Moveable Type, one of the first blog software programs. Creating a trackback link is very easy using most blog software. For a full explanation of how and why it works, visit http://www.movabletype.org/trackback/beginners/.

Of course, one of the important things many podcasters do is blog about their podcasts. Within a blog, it's easy to set up the expectations for the podcast, or to talk about the circumstances surrounding the actual podcasting process. If you decided to turn on comments for your blog, it also makes a great way for your podcast listeners to get you feedbackto make the entire podcasting experience more interactive and richer for both you and your listeners.
