Recording the elements of your podcast is only the first step toward putting it in the ears of listeners. You must still make decisions on mixing and editing your podcast, decisions that will shape its sound toward smooth and polished or spontaneous and informal. In this chapter, we'll look at the techniques for helping you make the podcast sound the way you want during the mixing and editing stages of production. Once you've got the final product sounding the way you want, it will be time to "package" the podcast by converting it from the native format your recording software uses into an MP3 file, and set the ID3 tags that let listeners know what they're listening to as they watch the screen of their MP3 players.

Finally, when the MP3 file is ready to go, it's time to upload it to the website that hosts your podcast. You'll most likely upload your file using FTP, a protocol that's easy to use, fast, and doesn't have the file size restrictions associated with most email services.
