Email Strategies

Another important mechanism for getting feedback from your listeners is email. Email is more personal than feedback posted on a website. As a result, it capitalizes on the personal connection that your listeners feel with your podcast.

Email is also more private than posting on your website. Many listeners will feel reluctant to post a message that anyone who visits your site can read.

Any email address will be fine for providing basic email functionality, including an email address associated with your domain. Lately, however, many podcasters have opted instead to use Google's free email service, Gmail. One reason for this is the fact that Gmail provides an enormous amount of storage with each Gmail account, an important consideration if you're soliciting audio comments (see the following section). However, the amount of available storage isn't the only reason you should consider opening a Gmail account.

Gmail automatically categorizes your mail into "conversations." All related mail is organized so that you can follow a thread of correspondence, even if several people are involved. This organization works in conjunction with Google's legendary search technology. The result is that Gmail makes it much easier for you to find patterns in the feedback you get from listeners.
