Troubleshooting

It Doesn't Work

graphics/troubleshooting_icon.jpg

I inserted the Web component in my Web site, and it doesn't work when I view it on the Web site.

Some components require FrontPage Server Extensions or Windows SharePoint Services. If you must use the component, you'll need to publish to a Web server that can meet these requirements.

For a list of which features require Server Extensions (and which versions), see http://extensionsneeded.frontpagelink.com.

Top 10 List Shows Nothing

My host provides FrontPage 2002 extensions but the Top 10 List components don't show what I think they should.

Some Web hosts have FrontPage 2002 extensions installed but cripple the server logging features associated with the extensions because of the stress they put on the system. If your host has taken this approach, the Top 10 List component won't work on your Web site.

Where's That Page?

I don't see my pages where they should be in a link bar.

Link bars pull their content from the navigational structure used during the design of the site. If your link bar isn't showing a page that should be there, you need to make sure FrontPage knows that the page belongs in the corresponding navigational structure. This is easily fixed by dragging the structure where it belongs in Navigation view.

Shared Border Chaos

Something went crazy somewhere on some page, and now all my shared borders are out of whack.

First of all, don't feel bad this is a common problem with shared borders. Because anyone on any of the pages can edit the borders, they can also easily make a mistake that propagates through your entire Web site with the click of the Save button.

The solution is as simple as the cause. Simply re-create the correct Shared Border format and let FrontPage update your site accordingly.
