Word and FrontPage 2003

It seems as if Microsoft Word has been around forever. It is hard to believe that Word 2003 represents the 11th version of this workhorse for the information worker.

As the popularity of the Internet grew, different camps at Microsoft tried to do different things with Word. Some of them made a lot of sense, and some of them were just plain weird. (Remember Word as Web browser?)

With Word 2003, Microsoft has produced a solid word processing product that meets the needs of anyone developing content for the page printed or Web. They seemed to finally have let each product do what it does best. In Word's case, the product excels (pun not intended) in the creation of content. When used in combination with FrontPage 2003, you can utilize the tools offered by Word to leverage the capabilities provided by FrontPage.

You will find that Microsoft Word can be a powerful tool and prove to be a strong ally in the Web development process.

On the very basic level, content from Word can easily be transferred to a Web page with the traditional cut and paste features we all know so well. FrontPage 2003 increases this integration by providing new means to edit Word content directly in FrontPage. And Word's capability to publish content directly to the Web makes it a viable companion in the content development process. We'll examine all those issues and approaches in this chapter and, as always, examine the human issues of working with these two products in our "Front and Center" section at the end.
