Tables Don't Print

I used tables to design a site that looks great on any screen including 800¥600, but when I print the page, the printer cuts it off at the right. How can I fix this?

Just because a Web page can be viewed on a screen without left-right scroll doesn't automatically mean that it can be printed off on a printer with no problems. Just like Web browsers, printers have their own limitations that have to be taken into account as well. In addition, different Web browsers print Web pages differently. Surprisingly, there is still no industry standard for printing Web pages yet.

You can see how many pixels your printer will print and set your pages to match that specific size. Realize that this approach will only work with the paper size and orientation you test again, but it is a good place to start.

Cell Content is Bigger Than Defined

I set a layout cell for a specific size and made sure that the text included in the cell fit the cell on the browser systems installed on my computer. I added a shadow effect for extra emphasis. A friend's browser shows the content as desired, but the cell is extended and the shadow effect is only shown on part of the cell. It looks terrible what do I do?

If the user sets her browser to show fonts larger than normal and there is no "free" space in the cell to expand to, most browsers will increase the cell size to fit the additional content. Because the shadow effects were set for the smaller cell size, the extended size won't have the coverage resulting in the effect you are describing. Sorry, there is no way around this issue, and it is one of the limitations of using borders with set sizes.

One way around this is to produce your own shadow effect graphic to the specific size you want and place that as the background image in your cell.

Text Touching Borders

The text in my cells and tables is shown right up against the border of my tables and cells. The effect is less than attractive. What can I do?

The padding variable for both tables and cells sets a pixel distance between the border of any cell or table and the content contained in it. Set your padding number to a desirable pixel size, and the browser will render the content accordingly.

Layout Cell Effects

In an attempt to produce a nice layout effect, I set the spacing for a cell in my table to only be 100 pixels. The content in that same cell takes more than 50% of my screen. Why won't FrontPage accept my sizing request?

If the content in a cell exceeds the set size of the cell, the cell will stretch to contain all the content. This is an HTML issue, not a FrontPage one. Any image or collection of letters without a space (such as very long URL) will cause this to happen.

Shadow Effects Went Bad

I placed a shadow effect on a layout cell, and it looks great. Now that I added additional content to the cell, the shadow is broken up and looks terrible. How can I fix this.

When a shadow is placed on a cell, it is based around the exact size of the cell with the existing content within it. If the size of that cell is increased, you will need to redraw the shadow to keep the effect.
