Summary

In this chapter we have covered the basic information you need to know before proceeding. We've touched on what an intranet is and what benefits it can bring to your organization. We've also covered how intranet development can differ from developing for the Internet, mainly in terms of type of content and the advantages of knowing your user base. We've also touched briefly on the people who will likely be involved in the development process and the types of applications that you might wish to develop for the intranet.

In the upcoming chapters we'll focus more on each of the problems you will encounter while developing your intranet, from the initial justification, through planning and development, to expanding the intranet to remote users and extranets.
