According to analysts such as Gartner, Web services are "the next big thing" and will play an important role in the future. However, although everybody seems to speak about Web services, only a few people really know what it's all about. One opinion often heard is that Web services are something for really large applications only and you need .NET or Java to use them. Both claims are incorrect, as this chapter will show. PHP 5 comes with a Web services extension that was developed in-house by Zend and is quite good, confirming the importance that this extension (and the whole technology) has for the future of PHPat least according to Zend. |
