This chapter has tried to serve as a basic introduction to JOAL and OpenAL. JOAL is a fairly straightforward library to use and can easily fill most needs in any game. As with all new technologies, JOAL is still working to get into a finalized and perpetually stable state. This process has indeed taken some time but will likely be resolved in short order. Make sure to check for updates to take full advantage of this growing toolkit. Now there is no excuse for having lackluster audio on the Java game platform.
