Board activity is supported by a salaried executive director and staff. The executive director conducts the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensures logistical support for SNIA meetings and conference participation. D.2.1 Board AdvisorsThe board may receive counsel on industry-related issues from the board advisors, typically former board members and interested parties who may attend board meetings and provide input into board discussions. Board advisors play a critical role in providing viewpoints on storage networking issues and in helping to promote the SNIA within the industry. D.2.2 Technical CouncilThe technical activity and strategic technical vision of the SNIA are managed by the SNIA Technical Council. The council is composed of nine of the top experts within the storage networking community, who volunteer their time and expertise to maintain the integrity of SNIA's technical initiatives. In 2001, the technical council produced the SNIA Shared Storage Model as a guide to understanding storage networking technologies. The technical council also oversees the activity of the technical work groups in cooperation with the technical director. D.2.3 Technical DirectorThe SNIA technical director (TD) is a full-time staffed position funded by the SNIA budget. The current technical director is Arnold Jones. Responsibilities of the TD include technical direction and project management of the SNIA work groups, SNIA liaison with standards bodies such as ANSI and IETF, technical input into the SNIA Technology Center, and support of SNIA committees. D.2.4 Technical Center DirectorThe technical center director is also a full-time staffed position and is responsible for management of the SNIA Technology Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over time, the technical center director will staff the Technology Center for a variety of SNIA-sponsored initiatives. |
