Chapter 2. sendmail IntroductionThis book uses examples focusing on the sendmail Mail Transfer Agent (MTA). It's generally assumed that the reader has some idea how to build and administer sendmail, although not necessarily at the expert level. If an email administrator is responsible for management of a sendmail-based system, then he or she should definitely read appropriate chapters from a general UNIX system administration handbook such as the UNIX System Administration Handbook [NSSH01] or, even better, a book specific to sendmail administration such as Craig Hunt's Linux Sendmail Administration [HUN01] or Bryan Costales' sendmail [CA97]. If none of these sources is immediately available, then the Sendmail Consortium Web site [SEN] and the Sendmail Installation and Operation Guide [ASA], which comes with the sendmail source distribution, are good places to start. |
