This chapter explored each component of ASDM:

The following tables summarize all components of ASDM.

Pull-Down Menu Tab

Summary

File

Contains commands to save configuration files to the Flash in the ASA/PIX Security Appliance and various other locations.

Rules

Used to insert items into a rules list. This pull-down is only active when the Configuration icon is selected in the navigation bar.

Search

Used to search items that exist in a rules list. This pull-down is only active when the Configuration icon is selected in the navigation bar.

Options

Sets cookies in your browser to control how ASDM will behave in certain circumstances such as logout and command displays.

Tools

Contains tools for common command-line tasks for the security appliance. This includes Flash, file management, image and ASDM upgrades, ASA/PIX command execution, and system reloads.

Wizards

This pull-down starts the two wizards that are available with ASDM: the VPN Wizard and the Startup Wizard.

Help

This pull-down contains context-sensitive help for ASDM. You can also access the ASA/PIX Security Appliance User Guide from the Cisco website if you have Internet connectivity.


An overview of each item on the navigation bar was discussed in this chapter. These items are contained in Table 4-13.

Navigation Icon

Summary

Home

This is the default screen seen when ASDM launches. It primarily contains status and device information of the ASA/PIX and ASDM.

Configuration

This is the main portion of ASDM. It contains all the configuration options for the ASA/PIX Security Appliance.

Monitoring

The Monitoring icon offers options to monitor all the security appliance features and functions. This includes graphing and table views.

Back Arrow

This allows backward navigation through previously viewed ASDM screens.

Forward Arrow

This allows forward navigation through previously viewed ASDM screens.

Search

This icon finds the ASDM screen that matches user-entered search criteria.

Refresh

The Refresh icon reloads the current ASA/PIX configuration to the ASDM application.

Save

This icon saves any changes made through ASDM to the ASA/PIX Security Appliance's running configuration.

Help

This contains context-sensitive help.
