The disk process software is an integral part of the operating system. Each disk volume runs its own copy of the disk process program. Disks can be of one of two types:
A physical disk volume of a specified type and size
A virtual disk volume physically resides on one or more physical volumes . A virtual disk is a software configured disk that has a distinct volume name . Virtual disks are created and managed with the Storage Management Foundation (SMP) software.
There are two distinct Disk Processes that match the above:
TSYSDP2 HP disk process operating system component
OVDP Disk process used by disks configured as VIRTUAL
The disk volume process is run as the name of the volume, i.e., $DATA1. Volume names are reserved on the system and the processes are run automatically by the operating system.
