Below is a list of minimum system requirements to install the software supplied on this CD.

For Windows

Any Windows system capable of running Java 2 Standard Edition 5.0 (1.5) or 1.4.2 with at least 64 MB RAM:

• Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 1 or higher)

• Windows XP Home (with Service Pack 1 or higher)

• Windows 2000 Professional (with Service Pack 3 or higher)

• Windows 98, Second Edition

• Windows ME

• Windows Server 2003 (requires 128 MB memory or more)

You will need at least 98 MB available disk space to run Java, and approximately 100 MB more to store MediaTools, Squeak, and the book's sample programs and media files.

For Macintosh

• To run the 1.4.2 versions of Java and MediaTools: Mac OS X 10.3.4 (Panther) or higher

• To run the 5.0 (also known as "1.5") version of Java and MediaTools: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or higher

Also required: 100 MB hard disk storage to store MediaTools, Squeak, and the book's sample programs and media files. We recommend 128 MB RAM or more.

Note: Mac OS X 10.4.3 can run Java 5 (1.5), but it must be downloaded from Apple and installed. Mac OS X 10.3 cannot run Java 5, but comes with Java 1.4 installed.
