Managing Sites

[ LiB ]

Dreamweaver site management is handled through the Manage Sites dialog box (see Figure 17.1), the Site Definition dialog box (see Figure 17.2), and the Site panel, with its drop-down site menu.

The current site displays in the Site panel. Its name shows in the Site panel's drop-down site menu. To switch the current site to a different site, you can also open the Manage Sites dialog box by choosing Manage Sites from this menu. You can open the Site Definition dialog box for the current site by clicking on its name in this drop-down menu.

The Site Definition dialog box, used in creating new sites, is also used to edit settings for existing sites. Access it by choosing Site > Manage Sites, choosing a site, and clicking the Edit button; or by clicking twice on the current site's name in the Site panel's drop-down site menu.

The Manage Sites dialog box lists all currently defined sites, giving you the option to create new sites, edit existing sites, delete sites, and more (see Figure 17.1). Access this dialog box by choosing Site > Manage Sites, or by choosing Manage Sites from the Site panel's drop-down site menu. It's also accessible from a button in the Preferences > Site dialog box.

  • To edit a site from this dialog box, select a site and click Edit to open that site's Site Definition dialog box.

  • To delete a site, select it and click the Delete button. Note that deleting a site does not delete any of the files that are part of that site from your computer, nor does it change the local root folder in any way. It deletes only the site information that you specified when you created the siteincluding the site name and the designation of a specific folder as the local root folder.

  • To create a new site from this dialog box, click the New button.
