Appendix A. JavaScript Primer

How are your scripting skills? You don't have to be the world's greatest JavaScript guru to work through the projects in this book, but you do need to have a good grasp of how JavaScript works, including how to create simple scripts that use functions, expressions, and logical constructs such as if-statements and loops ; how to build HTML forms and collect information from them; and how to work with JavaScript objects such as strings and documents. For those of you who maybe need a little refresher course or a quick once-over of the basics, this appendix will take you through everything you need to know. The explanations here aren't meant as a substitute for reading a really good JavaScript booklike Danny Goodman's JavaScript Bible or any of the O'Reilly JavaScript booksbut they do cover the basics, focusing on just what you'll need to know to get your extending career started. The exercises can be done using any text editor, or using Dreamweaver Code view, and previewing in any version 4.0 or higher browser. Good luck!
