Answers

A. There's really no guarantee that anyone will pass any exam that they take. This uncertainty is what helps make each industry certification valuable. If there were any way to guarantee success, the certification wouldn't be worth anything to employers and clients.

A. Absolutely not. One of the ways high-stakes, proctored exams level the playing field is to standardize what everyone enters the examination room with. This includes only what the proctor gives you, which is generally scratch paper or erasable board and something to write with, all of which you must return to the proctor after your exam. It does not include your own study materials or notes, nor does it include watches with calculators or cell phones. You'll be able to check your prohibited items with the proctor before the exam and pick them up afterward.

A. Both VUE and Prometric have very liberal policies concerning canceling and postponing exams. Check their websites or call for more information, but expect quite a bit of leeway up to and including the day before your scheduled exam.

A. Generally, you're permitted to leave the exam room to go to the restroom or get a drink. However, individual testing centers might differ in the way they exercise these liberties. Your exam clock continues to run while you're away, so it's in your best interest to take care of everything before sitting down to your exam.

A. You must notify your proctor immediately of any issues you have with the functionality of your exam station, such as loss of power, lockups, or input-device inoperability, all of which are very rare. Your proctor isn't allowed to answer any questions about the exam itself.

A. It's completely legal to perform a complete brain dump onto your scratch material of all the things you're afraid you'll forget as soon as you sit down for your exam. That way, you don't have to concentrate as much on retaining everything you struggled to store away in your brain before the exam.

A. Generally, you must have two picture IDs with you. These can include a driver's license, a military ID, a credit card with your picture, and a number of other official forms of picture identification. You should have any testing confirmations you received by e-mail with you as well, but feel free to leave these in your vehicle until you find them necessary to clear up any discrepancies. Normally, you won't need them.

A. Penalties are harsh for anyone caught in violation of official exam policy. You'll fail the current exam regardless of your score and forfeit any examination fees paid. You'll likely be subject to an extended delay before you'll be eligible to sit for that exam again and possibly for any exam by the same exam sponsor, which will also delay your certification. If your certification is required for employment or advancement, you can imagine the extent of the ramifications.

A. Absolutely. The command sh run works the same as show running-config, for example.

A. Kind of. It does provide some output of possible commands, but not enough to answer the question for you.
