Section A.1. RFID Vendors

A.1. RFID Vendors

You might find the list of vendors provided here useful in various ways (for example, to make a first pass at selecting a set of vendors for an RFID project, to explore vendor product lines to find out about RFID system component current capabilities, to learn from vendor experiences, and to check out similar project references). This list is not exhaustive, and the listed vendor capabilities might have changed since the writing of this book. Therefore, to get a vendor's latest information, you should directly contact the vendor.

Figure A-1 provides a list of RFID vendors. The list columns in this figure are as follows:

  • Vendor. Specifies a vendor's name and its Web address.

  • Tag. Denotes whether the vendor designs or manufactures a tag microchip (M), tag/smart label (T), or tag antenna (A); provides other related services such as manufacturing an inlet or converting an inlet into a usable form (for example, smart labels, rolls, and ruggedized tags) (O); and the tag type, either passive (Ps), active (Ac), or semi-active (Sa). Only the original vendors and their respective products are listed; resellers and partners are not included in this list.

  • Reader. Specifies whether the vendor manufactures readers and printers of some typefor example, printer (P), stationary (S), handheld (H), serial [RS232/RS485] (R), wired network (N), or wireless (W).

  • Antenna. Identifies whether the vendor designs or manufactures reader antennas.

  • Frequency. Specifies the products' supported frequency types LF (L), HF (H), UHF (U), and microwave (M).

  • Other Hardware/Software (HW/SW). Indicates whether the vendor designs and implements RFID network, edge devices, or edge software (E); server, portal, tunnel, I/O controller, tag applicator/labeling system/RFID custom hardware, such as mounting hardware (H); middleware (M); or other software types (for example, application specific, tool sets, and business integration) (S).

  • Services. Identifies whether the vendor provides services such as business consulting (B), RFID hardware consulting (H) (for example, site survey, installation, laboratory testing for tagging, label printing, and packaging services), integration (I), and training in the RFID technology (T).
