Chapter 7. Web Server Controls

Oh, what a tangled web server control we weave!

You might ask yourself, "Self, why do we need more controls than the ones we just covered in the chapter on HtmlControl? I can do just about everything I can think of in designing web sites with these controls. What do I need more for? And to be honest, some of them look repetitive."

First I would say, "Very observant." Then I would say, "There is a very good reason for what appears to be redundancy, but isn't." Remember that the development of the .NET Framework wasn't haphazard or flagrant but very well thought out. The issue of programming paradigms also comes into play here. HTML server controls are nothing more than standard HTML tags dressed in .NET clothing. Web server controls are the real Elvis.
