InDesign CS no longer supports export to HTML, the language of the Web. You can no longer use InDesign to create documents intended for Web distribution. However, you can create PDF documents that can be opened as a link from a Web document.
InDesign has a new Bookmarks pane that lets you create bookmarks ‚ a table-of-contents-like list ‚ for PDF files. InDesign can use a table of contents to create the PDF bookmarks during export, or it can use user -selected text and page items that are tagged as bookmarks in the Bookmarks pane.
When creating eBooks, you can place QuickTime movies in a frame from either the Place dialog box or the Movie Options dialog box. That Movie Options dialog box (Object ‚ Interactive ‚ Movie Options) also specifies the behavior of the movie in an exported PDF file.
Similarly, the Sound Options dialog box, accessed by choosing Object ‚ Interactive ‚ Sound Options, lets you import sound files and control how they play in exported PDF files.
The new Push Button tool lets you create push buttons for PDF forms.
InDesign CS now lets you assign rollovers to push buttons in PDF files.
Double-clicking eBook page items (push button, movie, or sound) now opens the associated options dialog box.
In creating XML files, you can now map character styles to XML tags (and vice versa).
You can now specify XML data type description (DTD) files, as well as validate XML file structures against them.
The new Package for GoLive feature (in the File menu) lets you export XML files for use in Adobe GoLive 7 or later. If you drag page items from the exported InDesign files onto GoLive HTML pages, the InDesign file's underlying XML structure will be applied to the GoLive HTML page.
InDesign now supports the XMP standard for placed images in XML files.
InDesign CS adds JavaScript support for cross-platform application scripting, in addition to Visual Basic for Windows and AppleScript for Mac OS X.
Scripts can now address individual graphics in a layout as objects, create dialog boxes, access object labels (which you can set in InDesign, as well as have InDesign automatically extract from converted QuarkXPress files), set object properties, and identify the file path on which the script resides.
InDesign can now run text-only AppleScripts in addition to compiled (binary) ones.
You can now assign keyboard shortcuts to scripts.
If you create many scripts, you can control how their names sort in the scripts list.
