Presets

Trap Presets is the new name for the Trap Styles pane, but they are functionally the same otherwise .

The Save Preset button in the Print dialog box used to be called Save Style in previous versions of InDesign, but it's the same feature.

Page options

InDesign CS now lets you enter absolute page numbers in the Range field. For example, entering +6-+12 would print the document's sixth through twelfth pages, no matter what their page numbers are.

The Print dialog box's Include Slug Area option is new to InDesign CS, since slugs are new to this version.

PDF export

PDF/X export support and Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5) format export support are new to InDesign CS. Also new are support for layers (in Acrobat 6 format only) and for JPEG 2000 compression (also just in Acrobat 6 format).

Support for 128-bit encryption (used when exporting to Acrobat 6's PDF 1.5 format) is new to InDesign CS.

Color and image handling

InDesign CS now offers the Composite Leave Unchanged option for all color printers, as well as for EPS export, rather than just for PDF output.

The software now correctly prints Photoshop DCS 1.2 files with transparency when you use the In-RIP Separations option.

InDesign CS now lets you preview color separations in your document with the new Separations Preview pane.

The Flattener Preview pane is new to InDesign CS. It shows the effects of the flattening settings applied during output on transparent and semitransparent objects.

InDesign now preserves OPI 1.3 comments during PDF export.

Font handling

The Complete Font Download Glyph Limit text field is new to InDesign CS's Preferences dialog box. It is used for OpenType fonts that have many special characters , such as accented letters , symbols, and diacritical marks. To prevent output files from getting clogged up with very large font files, this option lets you set the maximum number of characters (glyphs) that can be downloaded from a font file into an output file. Any characters actually used are always downloaded; the reason you might want to download an entire font is so someone could edit the file as a PDF or EPS file and have access to all characters in the proper fonts for such editing.
