InDesign lets you import pictures in any of several supported graphics file formats. The preferred method for importing pictures is the Place command (File ‚ Place, or z +D or Ctrl+D) because it lets you customize various import settings that control how an imported picture is displayed and printed.
You can also import pictures into an InDesign document by dragging and dropping graphics file icons into a document window or by copying and pasting objects between InDesign documents or between documents created with other programs and InDesign documents.
If you need to use Illustrator-generated objects or graphics files in your InDesign documents, several options are available: the Place command, the Copy and Paste commands, file drag and drop, and interapplication drag and drop.
