This chapter reviewed the important database installation procedures, including installation prerequisites, installation steps on UNIX- and Windows-based systems, and using Database Configuration Assistant to create a database. The section on database and binary cloning will help you to create development and testing database instances from a production database instance. Many of these tasks can be accomplished using the improved Enterprise Manager or manually from the command line. You also learned the database upgrade procedures for an Oracle 9i physical and logical standby configuration. The final section, on backing out from a failed installation, will guide you in the event of any installation hiccups.
