Conclusion

As youve seen, OLE DB Consumer Templates make it very easy and clean to access databases, and the wizard provided by Visual C++ .NET makes generating these templates trivial. With only minor changes, you can use these templates with the ATL Server data cache. Using this cache reduces the number of database connections your application needs to create, which is likely one of the most expensive operations your application will perform. Finally, the use of SRF tags allows you to display the data from your data source in a flexible manner. This combination of OLE DB Consumer Templates, SRF tags, and the ATL Server data source cache gives you an easy way to build data-driven Web applications that perform well under high loads.

By now you should have a pretty good understanding of how to build basic ATL Server applications. In the next chapter, youll look at some of the inner workings of the ATL Server library and see how you can leverage and customize it to suit more advanced needs.
