Chapter 7: Deploying an ATL Server Web Application

Overview

THIS CHAPTER FOCUSES ON deploying an ATL Server Web application (or Web service) on your development machine or testing area. Although this chapter contains information on automating deployment to multiple machines, this system isn t intended for deployment to production environments.

Deployment to production environments is a complex topic worthy of its own book. There are many tools available for developers of Web applications to deploy their finished product, and we recommend that readers who are interested in final deployment investigate these technologies (e.g., Microsoft s Application Center). Although these tools are designed to make machine replication and large-scale deployment much simpler, there s no reason why you can t use the deployment techniques outlined in this chapter for very small-scale production environments.

The other note about the deployment information in this chapter is that it s based on the Windows 2000 Internet Services Manager (ISM) system. This system does actually vary slightly from the systems provided in Windows NT 4.0, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003; therefore, users should be aware of this when they work on these other systems.
