Target Readers

 < Day Day Up >

Like our previous publication, this book mainly addresses those who already have taken their first steps in 3D graphics with the help of 3ds max (i.e., people who can create boxes, circles, spheres, and more complex objects, then animate them using the key animation method). In addition, we assume that our readers are advanced users of the Microsoft Windows OS. 3ds max is a full-value package integrated with Windows, and its interface and file system follow the rules of Microsoft's operating system. Therefore, we decided not to focus on opening the system, starting the applications, or opening files; for 3ds max, these actions are as standard as those for any application within Windows. We wanted to raise the plank higher and focus on projects without being distracted by keys, buttons, and other elements of the interface.

While writing the first book, we decided that it would be unfair to cut off novices in 3D. This decision turned out to be appropriate, and we have continued the tradition. So, this book also provides several levels of material.

First, actions are described. These are highlighted by bullets, for example:

  • Open the Scene.max file

To simplify searches for a required command, we provide the levels in a different font, for example:

  • Main menu à File à Open

It should be mentioned that we have considerably reduced the bulk of the material on such levels by excluding the obvious. At the same time, the Additional Lessons section provides several lessons for the beginners. Start with these lessons if you encounter difficulties.

Finally, there are many notes, explanations, and tips highlighted in the text as follows:

Note

You can decide whether or not to read the text thus highlighted. As a rule, it does not affect the results of the lesson. However, if you are a beginner, we recommend that you pay attention to the information stated in these sections.

While planning this book, we discussed the contents both with colleagues and readers, and they unanimously agreed that we should not repeat material from our previous publication. We tried to satisfy this request by reducing the number of "overlaps" with material of the previous book and by making references to it where necessary.
