Selecting the View in the Viewport

 < Day Day Up >

You can select the view in the viewport using the viewport right-click menu (Fig. 12.4). However, the keyboard hotkeys are much more convenient. We will provide a list of keyboard shortcuts with brief comments later.

The <T>,<B>,<F>,<K>,<L> keys allow you to select the following views: Top (T), Bottom (B), Front (F), Back (K), Left (L). These commands are self-explanatory.

Note

Users of previous versions of 3ds max may notice that there is no shortkey for the Right view. This will be explained below.

The <P> and <U> keys designate the Perspective (P) and User (U) views, respectively. When you switch to one of these views, the current viewing angle is saved.

The <C> and <$> keys (<Shift>+<4>) designate the Camera and Light views, respectively. If the current scene lacks objects of these types, you'll get a warning. If the scene contains several objects of this type, and none of them is currently selected, you'll be prompted to select one from a list. The view from these objects will then be available from the viewport right-click menu.

All the remaining viewport views are rather specific, and will therefore not be described further here. In addition, some of them were covered in previous lessons.

Note

Some views have no default keyboard shortcuts. If necessary, you can always assign them. (The second lesson of this book contains a detailed description of this procedure.)
