Internet Transaction Server

Team-Fly

ITS enables you to execute SAP transactions, reports, and RFCs through a Web browser.

ITS Advantages

For simple reports, ITS is very easy to use. A standard ABAP report can be accessed through the ITS system in a matter of minutes. By design, ITS is secure and is a scalable solution, so you can set it up to handle any type of demand. Most of the program logic is done in ABAP. If you have a current SAP installation, the support staff can probably support the underlying ABAP in an ITS transaction.

ITS is developed by SAP, and thus is integrated into the SAP development cycle. You can develop a solution that includes ABAP, HTML, graphics, and so forth, and transport all the objects, through SAP, from the development to the consolidation and production systems. Consequently, you reduce the risk of your HTML pages being out of sync with the underlying ABAP code.

ITS Disadvantages

Complicated screens and screen sequences are not handled easily with ITS. Complicated screens require manual coding of HTML, and you must develop an HTML page for every screen that the user can display.

In addition, the amount of time that users can maintain a connection to the SAP system is limited. Though this limit can be set quite high (depending on the hardware installed), it still forces users to complete their transaction in a fixed amount of time.

ITS requires Windows NT servers to handle the intranet/Internet requests. This configuration typically requires a minimum of two systems (one for the Agate and another for the Wgate), along with hardware to support your development environment. For complicated transactions, your development staff will require a knowledge of SAP, ABAP, ITS, and HTML to effectively develop an application.
