GroupWise Diagnostics

This section discusses the options available when you select the GroupWise Diagnostics option under the GroupWise Utilities menu. You probably won't use GroupWise Diagnostics often, but the feature sure is handy when you are doing hard-core troubleshooting.

Display Object

One of the most useful tools the developers have for debugging is the Display Object tool shown in Figure 7.9. This window bypasses the usual object details windows and displays all record data as straight text.

This is a useful tool for viewing all the information about any object in your GroupWise system in one simple view. GroupWise Diagnostics is particularly helpful because it allows you to see some information that is not available any other place. GroupWise Diagnostics is an information-gathering tool, but it in no way does a health-check type diagnosis of a GroupWise system or object. At various points throughout this book, you'll be told to use GroupWise Diagnostics to garner some little piece of information.

In the example in Figure 7.9, a user named Glenn Brown has been highlighted when the Display Object menu was selected. The top pane shows the GDS (GroupWise Directory Store) information. The bottom pane establishes the context and class of this object record in eDirectory. Then you are given a flat list of attribute names and values.

Record Enumerations

The Record Enumerations tool is similar to the Display Object tool, but it shows only information from the GDS system, as read from the connected GroupWise domain database. Also, the Record Enumerations tool references objects via several record type indexes available as a drop-down list.

Unlike Display Object, the Record Enumerations tool shows the same information regardless of what was selected when the tool was activated. Record Enumerations is a window into the "guts" of the domain database, and from the Record Enumerations window, shown in Figure 7.10, any record can be selected.

Like the Display Object tool, Record Enumerations is typically useful when troubleshooting synchronization problems.

Information

The Information tool, shown in Figure 7.11, is available when almost any object in the GroupWise system is highlighted. The Information tool is a good way to get a bird's-eye view of a system, domain, or post office.
