Summary

This chapter discussed moving users safely and troubleshooting user moves that have gone awry. To ensure safe user moves, do the following:

  • Clean the user's message store before initiating the move. It is also assumed that the source and destination post offices have regular Mailbox/Library Maintenance scheduled event routines enabled.

  • Don't move more than 10 users at a time (unless you've carefully benchmarked the move process on your system).

  • Be connected to the destination domain when initiating the move.

When troubleshooting moves that have not gone well, remember these tips:

  • Don't panic; read the sections of this chapter that talk about the move-user architecture.

  • Determine the extent of the failure of the move (messages missing, directory entries incorrect, and so on) before taking any action.

  • Use the user move status and the POA logs to determine the problem.
