This chapter discussed moving users safely and troubleshooting user moves that have gone awry. To ensure safe user moves, do the following:
Clean the user's message store before initiating the move. It is also assumed that the source and destination post offices have regular Mailbox/Library Maintenance scheduled event routines enabled.
Don't move more than 10 users at a time (unless you've carefully benchmarked the move process on your system).
Be connected to the destination domain when initiating the move.
When troubleshooting moves that have not gone well, remember these tips:
Don't panic; read the sections of this chapter that talk about the move-user architecture.
Determine the extent of the failure of the move (messages missing, directory entries incorrect, and so on) before taking any action.
Use the user move status and the POA logs to determine the problem.
