Understanding the GroupWise WebAccess Console

This section discusses the options shown when you view the WebAccess console. Each statistic is discussed to help you understand the status of the WebAccess Agent. Following is an explanation of the interface of the GroupWise WebAccess Agent running on the NetWare platform:

  • Threads: Here are some of the most valuable statistics you can gather from the WebAccess Agent. There are three thread values here. The Busy value represents how many WebAccess threads are currently in use. The Total value represents how many total threads are available to service requests. This is the maximum number of threads available. The Peak value represents the maximum number of concurrent threads that have been active at the same time.

  • Users In: There are three values here as well. The Current value lists the number of currently logged-in users at this moment in time. The Total value is the total number of users who have logged in since the agent has been up. (Up time is indicated in the upper-right corner of the WebAccess Agent.) The Peak value represents the maximum number of users logged in at the same time.

  • Requests: There are two statistics here. The Total value represents how many requests have come into the WebAccess Agent since it has been up. The Errors value shows how many errors have occurred since the agent has been up. You can view the log files to determine which errors occurred. In the upcoming section "Monitoring GroupWise WebAccess Through a Web Browser," you will learn how to search these log files.

  • Logging Box: This is the window directly under the Statistics window, and it displays the activity on the WebAccess Agent. The far-left value represents the thread number that is performing the task. Next is the time the event occurred, and last is the information associated with the particular request being logged. The logging level determines how much information is displayed here.

  • F9 = Browse Logfile: Pressing F9 from the agent console screen brings up a static copy of the current log file. Notice that at the beginning of each log file is the basic configuration information of the agent. It might be helpful information to verify which settings the agent is using.

  • F10 = Options: Pressing F10 brings up a dialog box with two options: View Log Files and Logging Options. If you select to view log files here, you are given a list of all the log files that the WebAccess Agent has created over a period of time. You can select any of the log files and view their contents. If you select Logging Options, you can change the current log settings that the agent is using. These log settings are discussed further in the upcoming section "Understanding the GroupWise WebAccess Log Files."

Tip

When you change these log settings here, they are active only while the WebAccess Agent is up and running. When the WebAccess Agent is restarted, it will pick up the log settings from either the startup file or the setting defined through the properties of the WebAccess Agent object in ConsoleOne.

If you are running the WebAccess Agent on Windows 2000/2003, the console screen is different. You do have some function keys that help control the console screen from within Windows. Here are the commands you can issue from the console when running the agent on Windows 2000/2003/200x (note that these commands are not available when running the agent as a service):

  • F1 or F7: Pressing F1 or F7 from the agent screen exits the WebAccess Agent.

  • F2: Pressing F2 cycles the log level on the WebAccess Agent. The available levels are normal (default), verbose, and diagnostic. Normal is usually adequate unless you are troubleshooting a particular problem with the agent and need additional logging information.

    Tip

The log level set via F2 is active only as long as the WebAccess Agent is up. If it is restarted, the log level is set to the option defined in either the startup file or the WPDOMAIN.DB file through ConsoleOne.

  • F12: Pressing F12 displays the statistics and thread activity of the agent. This is the same thread information you get from the agent when it is running on NetWare as an NLM. The values mean the same thing. It also gives the current log level, tells whether disk logging is enabled, and indicates the name of the current log file.

As you can see, there are not a lot of different statistics or configuration pieces to the WebAccess Agent compared to some of the other agents or gateways.
