Loading the GWIA

The preceding two chapters discussed how the message transfer agent and post office agent must be provided with certain startup parameters in order to load correctly. The GWIA needs the same sorts of parameters, but they are not provided to the GWIA the same way they are to the MTA or POA. For the GroupWise MTA and POA, most of the settings dealing with how the MTA or POA is configured are housed in the WPDOMAIN or WPHOST databases. The startup file for most MTAs and POAs has only one switch activated, the /home= switch. The GWIA is very different. Most of the GWIA's settings are not contained in the WPDOMAIN.DB file; they are contained in a file called GWIA.CFG. The following sections explain how the GWIA is configured.

If you have not finished configuring your GWIA, you might want to wait to load it a little later. Many of the configuration changes you make to the GWIA will just cause the GWIA to automatically reload and reread its configuration information. Some settings do not cause the GWIA to reload, so the GWIA must be brought down and then loaded again.

To load the GWIA after it has been installed and configured, enter the following:

GWIA

Novell has very thoughtfully provided an NCF file for the GWIA, called GWIA.NCF.

No startup parameters need to be passed to the GWIA manually, because it is hard-coded to look in its startup directory (typically SYS:\SYSTEM) for a file named GWIA.CFG. In the case of the NCF file, the GWIA was passed a parameter telling it where to look for the configuration file, but it wasn't necessary.

This assumes, however, that you are using the default installation directory for the GWIA (SYS:\SYSTEM on the server where the domain resides). If you need to move the GWIA to another directory or to another server, you might have some extra work to do before it will load correctly.

Linux:

/etc/rc.d/grpwise start
