12.7. ConclusionIn this chapter, we examined the political and strategic aspects of an SOA introduction. We pointed out that introducing an SOA is a complex endeavor that can only succeed if it is handled professionally and with adequate focus. It usually takes several years before an SOA is really established within an enterprise. The real-world examples have illustrated the most common challenges encountered when introducing an SOA and some suitable methods to successfully deal with them. However, SOAs address the concurrent trend towards aligning IT with overall business goals. The service-enabled enterprise facilitates more efficient SLAs between IT and the business organization, and thus IT is increasingly "being brought into the fold."
