Recording Manually

Sometimes you may need to override the program guide or search-based recording features, and set your Media Center to record manually. Manual recording also gives you more flexibility in deciding exactly what you record, and when. For example, if you want to record only the sports report on the local nightly news, you could manually set your Media Center to record just the last 10 minutes of the news program each night, and so on. All you need are the time and channel of what you want to record, and My TV will carry out your command to the letter.

Here's how to set up a manual recording session:

  1. From the My TV menu, select Recorded TV.

  2. Select Add Recording.

  3. Select Create a Custom Recording with Channel and Time, and you'll arrive at the Manual Record setup screen (see Figure 8.3).

Figure 8.3. Manual record can be useful when you know that something is going to be on a certain channel at a certain timeand your program guide doesn'tor if you just want to record a certain portion of a show.

  5. Scroll down (click on the down arrow) and specify the values for Stop Time, Keep Until, and Quality (for details on these settings, see the section "Advanced Record").

  6. If you want, select Add Title to input a name for your recording, and then select Save.

  7. Select Record.
