Acknowledgments

I'd first like to thank William Chin, who developed the concept for the RoadRage game and the original version of the RoadRage code that we then enhanced and used throughout this book. William is a great guy who has put an incredible amount of effort into the RoadRage code. William, I've greatly enjoyed working with you on this project and look forward to our future endeavors.

William and I and the rest of the Head Tapper Software team are currently in the process of developing a new game, RamRaider, which incorporates all the features in RoadRage and adds a great deal more. We'll release this game as shareware. To find out more information about this game and our software development company, Head Tapper Software, visit our Web site at www.headtappersoftware.com.

I'd also like to thank the following individuals, also members of Head Tapper Software, who have been involved in the development of the models and textures used in RoadRage: Mark Bracey, Blair Burrill, James Glendenning, and Correia Emmanuel.

I'd like to extend a very special thank you to Michael Anderson of the Microsoft Direct3D SDK team. He reviewed the entire book in galleys and pages and made numerous suggestions that improved the quality of the book immeasurably.

I'd also like to thank all the other folks at Microsoft, especially those on the DirectX team and at Microsoft Press (Eric Stroo, Sally Stickney, Donnie Cameron, Dail Magee Jr., and all the others). I also want to thank the people and companies who provided material used on the companion CD: Robert Lansdale of Okino Software, Nathan Harley of Futuremark Corporation, Credo Interactive, Indotek, Greg Kochaniak of Hyperionics, and Phillip Martin for his Quake 2 Modeller.

Thank you also to Dad and Mom for always supporting me and showing me that I could do anything I had the desire to do. You never know what I'll do next, do you?

Finally, and most of all, I'd like to thank my wife, Monica, and my daughter, Shannon. Thank you both so much for putting up with me writing all hours of the evening and working on code at every possible moment. Shannon, I love you tons and tons—you are the best daughter in the world; and Monica—forever + a day.
