Chapter 3. ebXML at Work

Perhaps the best way to discuss the potential for ebXML in e-business is to show examples of how the international consortium of business and technical experts intends the specification to work. This chapter presents three scenarios and relates each to the changing business conditions discussed in Chapter 1, "There's No Business Like E-Business."

All of these examples are projections of how companies might interact with the specification and with each other, as ebXML gives rise to more (and more innovative) e-business opportunities. Our goal as authors is to illustrate very real business needs based on our combined 40+ years of industry experience, and the realistic and achievable results offered by ebXML-compliant technology. All the companies presented in this chapter are fictitious; we intend no similarity to any past or present enterprises .
