Summary

In this chapter, we looked at the functionality that is available to your control for rendering markup text. We examined the rendering methods of the Control and WebControl classes, and we examined the HtmlTextWriter class that is responsible for rendering markup text to the HTTP response stream. We discussed when to derive from Control and when to derive from WebControl and showed how to override the rendering methods of these classes. We also showed how to utilize the methods of HtmlTextWriter to render HTML tags, attributes, and style attributes. In addition, we looked at how the page framework automatically generates HTML 4.0 or HTML 3.2, depending on the capabilities of the user 's Web browser.
