Merging Layers

Merging Layers

After you get your images in the correct position on their individual layers, you might want to merge the layers. Additionally, many file types, including .jpg, .gif, and .png, allow for only a single layer; as you attempt to save your file as one of these file types, Paint Shop Pro prompts you.

NOTE

After you flatten and merge your layers, other than using the Undo command, you cannot restore the individual layers. You might want to keep a copy of your images with all the layers. Save a copy of the file as a Paint Shop Pro file before you merge the layers.

Merging Down

The Merge Down feature allows you to selectively combine two layers in your image. The two layers must be adjacent to each other.

Merging Groups

When you created a group, the individual group layers were temporarily linked so that if you moved the image on one layer, the other layer images moved proportionately. If you are finished with the group, you can combine the group layers into a single layer by merging the group .

Merging All Layers

When you merge all the layers (called flattening), the image becomes nonlayered. If you have transparent areas in the image, Paint Shop Pro fills them with white.
