Making Magic Wand Selections

[ LiB ]

The third selection tool, the Magic Wand, works differently from the other two selection tools. The Shape and Freehand selection tools allow you to select an area of the image, but the Magic Wand works by selecting pixels of equal or similar colors or brightness.

The selections are made based on one of four values. With RGB Value, the Magic Wand selects pixels based on the amount of color they contain. With Hue, it selects pixels based on the position in the color wheel. With Brightness, the Magic Wand selects pixels based on the amount of white they contain. And with All Pixels, it selects only areas that contain pixels; no transparent areas are selected. You'll learn about the color wheel and RGB in Chapter 5, "Understanding the Materials Palette."
