Adding Vector Lines

[ LiB ]

In Chapter 3, "Discovering Drawing Tools," you learned how to use the Pen tool to draw various types of lines; however, editing the lines after drawing them is difficult when they are raster lines. When lines are drawn as vector objects, you can easily move and edit them without affecting the rest of the image objects.

Drawing Vector Lines

You draw vector lines just like you draw raster lines. However, after you complete a vector line, handles remain at the ends of the lines awaiting your next movement. You can create continuous lines or single lines. As with raster lines, you need to click the New button when you want to create a new series of lines.

NOTE

If you like to draw freehand, you might want to check into using an electronic pressure-sensitive drawing tablet, which lets you draw with better precision. Paint Shop Pro supports most tablets on the market today.

Using Knife Mode

When you draw vector lines, Paint Shop Pro includes a Contour Knife tool that allows you to slice a line into two or more pieces. The contour knife tool is new to Paint Shop Pro 8. Using the Contour Knife is one way to modify a vector line after you've drawn it. You will learn lots of different ways to edit vector graphics in Chapter 14, "Editing Vector Graphics."
