Excel has a feature called AutoRecover, which periodically saves a temporary version of your worksheet for you. When you close Excel normally, the temporary versions disappear, but if you don't get the chance to exit Excel (say, due to a computer freeze up), when you reopen Excel, the program opens a recovery version of the worksheets you were working on at the time of the crash. You can then choose to save them or not.
You can specify the time intervals for the AutoRecover to save your work.
