Send Mail Task

The Send Mail task can send out an e-mail message via SMTP. In SQL Server 2000, you had to send messages out through MAPI, which meant you had to install Outlook on the server that the package was running on. Now, that's no longer a requirement. The Mail page (shown in Figure 3-19) in the Send Mail Task Editor is where the configuration of this task takes place. The SMTPConnection option is where you select the SMTP Connection Manager or where you create a new one to an SMTP server.

Most of the configuration options are pretty self-explanatory in this task. One that is of special interest is the MessageSourceType option, which specifies whether the message source will be read from a file or a variable or whether it will be directly inputted into the MessageSource option.
