12 About Troubleshooting Capture Problems

By default, Premiere Elements captures both audio and video from your camcorder. However, it can also be set up to capture video only (as when you want visuals without the sounds), or audio only (as when you plan to use a clip recorded on your camcorder as a narration track).

1.

Open the Capture Workspace

Connect your camcorder as described in 5 Capture Digital Video Using FireWire, 6 Capture Digital Video Using USB, or 8 Capture Analog Video.

If connecting your camcorder did not automatically open the Capture workspace, click the Capture button in the upper-right corner of any workspace.

9. Capture Video or Audio Only

2.

Locate Video to Capture

By using the various playback and shuttle controls or your camcorder's VTR controls, locate the video clip you want to capture and pause your camcorder. (See 7 Control Your DV Camcorder During Capture.)

3.

Set Your Tape for Audio-Only or Video-Only Recording

Click the More button in the Monitor panel and click to place the check mark next to either Video Only or Audio Only.

4.

Begin Capture

Click the Capture button while your video is paused. If the Device Control for your camcorder is enabled (Premiere Elements turns this on for you if your camcorder is capable of supporting it), the camcorder's tape begins to play as capture begins. Otherwise, begin playback using your camcorder's physical controls.

5.

Stop Capture

Click the Stop Capture button when you want your capture to stop. Your audio-only or video-only clip(s) are added to the Media panel.

To review your captured clips, see 11 View Captured Clips.
